How, if at all, are your cycling clubs handling this?
Men have long dominated cycling. There's hardly much room for disagreement. It seems like a lot of clubs are talking a lot about inclusivity and how much they want to see more women join. This is fantastic, only to learn that they don't actually do anything in the end.
My spouse recently developed an interest in cycling, and she was thrilled to find out about a local cycling club's effort targeted at female novice bikers. large-scale social media announcements, incredibly optimistic remarks, and noble motives. Everything appeared intriguing and promising.
Nevertheless, she was immediately let down when she discovered that the club was only asking female riders to the customary 50–60 mile weekend social rides (which can be challenging for novices) and engaging in trash talk and showcasing some of the worst instances of toxic masculinity I've ever seen on the club's series of Swift challenges.
Is this really an instance of a very awful club, or do you guys observe such circumstances generally?
